【INCENSE.TEA HOUSE】A late Qing dynasty Zhu Ni pear-shaped teapot with the inscription "Lin Zhongsheng Yuzhu" on the bottom and "Fu Ji" below the handle. 100 C.C.

This piece combines the classic pear-shaped teapot form, the literati poem inscription on the base, and the mark of a renowned late Qing dynasty merchant.

1. The "Fuji" merchant name is the most important basis for dating this teapot to the late Qing and early Republican periods (approximately late 19th to early 20th century).

Founder Background: Fuji was a famous Yixing clay pottery merchant founded by Cheng Shoufu (also known as Chen Huanfu, c. 1853-1926), a master potter of the late Qing dynasty. He was exceptionally skilled in crafting small Zhuni (red clay) teapots.

During the Guangxu era, Fuji partnered with merchants from Chaozhou, Guangdong, specializing in various types of Zhuni horizontal teapots and pear-shaped teapots, exporting them in large quantities to Fujian, Guangdong, and Southeast Asia (Nanyang). Therefore, "Fuji under the handle" represents the highest quality of export-grade Gongfu teaware at that time.

2. The Imagery of the Inscription "Jade Bamboo Grows in the Forest" on the Bottom: The inscription "Jade Bamboo Grows in the Forest" on the bottom of a small Qing Dynasty Zhuni teapot symbolizes the noble, humble, and elegant spirit of the literati.

Craftsmanship Characteristics: In the export teapots of Fu Kee during this period, the bottom inscriptions were often made using fine wooden seals or skillfully engraved. The flowing characters and beautiful brushstrokes perfectly complement the refined atmosphere of a tea ceremony.

3. The "Pear-Shaped Teapot": The pear-shaped teapot is a timeless geometric classic among Zhuni teapots. The rounded belly allows for excellent expansion and convection space for the tea leaves.

Smooth Water Flow: The pear-shaped teapots made by Fu Kee have an excellent balance between the spout and handle, an elegant appearance, and a tight, focused water stream when pouring from the single spout, making them highly favored by Gongfu tea connoisseurs.
