Vessel Curation / Masterpiece of Song Ru Ware Celestial Aesthetics

Taipei, Taiwan・Tsai Hsiao-fang Studio Mark (Hsiao Fang Hook Mark)

Curatorial Notes

Sky-clearing azure reveals a commanding presence. Crafted by contemporary ceramic master Tsai Hsiao-fang, this "Ru Ware Celestial Celadon Tall Square Foliate-Rim Vase" bears his distinctive handwritten "Hsiao Fang" hook-style mark on the base. Drawing inspiration from classical Song dynasty square foliate vases, it features an upright silhouette with crisp, refined ribs and an elegant lobed rim. Cloaked in Hsiao Fang Kiln's signature celestial celadon thick glaze, the jade-like surface reveals intricate layers of three-dimensional ice crackle and crab-claw veins. The unglazed foot ring displays an authentic iron-rust reddish-brown body characteristic of Song ceramics. Measuring 26.5 cm in height (excluding base), it comes paired with a custom carved hardwood stand to grace contemporary interior spaces.

• Square Foliate Form & Refined Ribs: Measuring 12.5 cm square with an upright height of 26.5 cm, the flaring foliate mouth and vertical ribs balance crisp geometric precision with organic softness.

• Hardwood Pedestal & Master Hook Mark: The cleanly finished foot reveals authentic reddish-brown clay and a handwritten "Hsiao Fang" hook mark, elevated by a tailor-made carved wooden display stand.

Sky-blue glaze gathers ancient light within square-cut lobes.
