Contemporary Ceramic Art | Master Tsai Hsiao-fang
Hsiao Fang Pottery Arts Early Hand-Painted Blue & White "Peony & Gourd in Ice-Plum Panels" Brush Pot (With Custom Wood Stand)
Vessel Curation / Masterpiece of Early Literati Blue-and-White PorcelainTaipei, Taiwan・Tsai Hsiao-fang (Yongzheng Imperial Mark)
Curatorial Notes
Literati elegance meets blessings of fortune and prosperity. Crafted during master ceramicist Tsai Hsiao-fang's early period, this cylindrical blue-and-white brush pot bears a blue-and-white double-ring "Da Qing Yongzheng Nian Zhi" mark on the base. The exterior is richly decorated with an ice-plum ground pattern framing two shaped panels:
one panel depicts sprawling gourd vines with fluttering bats symbolizing endless prosperity and generational blessings; the opposing panel reveals a blooming peony rendered with subtle cobalt wash gradations symbolizing nobility and flourishing fortune. Featuring vibrant cobalt tones, crisp brushwork, and a custom carved hardwood base, it stands as an exquisite scholar's desktop collectible.
Form & Spatial Aesthetics
Ice-Plum Ground & Masterly Wash: Deep cobalt washes accentuate the icy plum ground, while luminous white space within the panels highlights layered peony petals and natural gourd tendrils with painterly finesse.
Literati Allegory of Fortune: Seamlessly combining the noble beauty of peonies with the auspicious blessings of gourds and bats, the balanced composition embodies both imperial refinement and scholar-gentleman grace.
Scholarly Presence & Custom Pedestal: Measuring 10 cm in diameter and 13.5 cm in height (excluding stand), the upright vessel rests on a bespoke circular hardwood pedestal, elevating any studio or tea table with classical poise.
